It is one of the most important tourist destinations of Europe in the eighteenth century was the last stop of the Grand Tour, a journey that young aristocratic Europeans, mostly British, were making in Europe - many in Italy - to improve their education and their spiritual formation.

Tourism is growing aided by the presence of numerous archaeological sites (Morgantina, Segesta, Selinunte, Valle dei Templi and Villa del Casale) and artistic and natural beauties that attract the interest of visitors.

The famous tourist resorts are varied coastlines and islands. In addition to the well-known and popular resorts such as Taormina, Isole Eolie, Erice, Isole Egadi, Cefalù, Monreale and Palermo as some of its fishing towns Mondello and Sferracavallo, San Vito Lo Capo, Noto, Siracusa.

The Sicilian hinterland is rich in history and traditions, but also art, culture, castles, theaters, churches, castles, forests and importantly natural basins, the elements characterizing the internal areas of the region.

Sicily is one of the Italian regions with the highest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites including: Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina, Landscape and Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, the Eolie Islands; The Baroque buildings of eight municipalities belonging to the Val di Noto: Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Catania, Ragusa, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo Acreide and Scicli, The historical center of Siracusa and the necropolis of Pantalica.
