Sicily

Sicily, the island is part of Italy and consists, besides the island of the same name, the Eolie, Egadi, Pelagie, Ustica and Pantelleria.

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, bordered to the north with the Tyrrhenian Sea, south-west by the Canale di Sicilia, the Ionian Sea to the east and north-east by the Stretto di Messina.

It is one of the most important tourist destinations of Europe in the eighteenth century was the last stop of the Grand Tour, a journey that young aristocratic Europeans, mostly British, were making in Europe - many in Italy - to improve their education and their spiritual formation.

Tourism is growing aided by the presence of numerous archaeological sites (Morgantina, Segesta, Selinunte, Valle dei Templi and Villa del Casale) and artistic and natural beauties that attract the interest of visitors.

The famous tourist resorts are varied coastlines and islands. In addition to the well-known and popular resorts such as Taormina, Isole Eolie, Erice, Isole Egadi, Cefalù, Monreale and Palermo as some of its fishing towns Mondello and Sferracavallo, San Vito Lo Capo, Noto, Siracusa.

The Sicilian hinterland is rich in history and traditions, but also art, culture, castles, theaters, churches, castles, forests and importantly natural basins, the elements characterizing the internal areas of the region.

In Sicily there are some of the most important volcanoes: Etna, Stromboli and Vulcano, one submarine, Empedocle, active and located in the Sicily and the one off of Riposto.
